...NOAA Weather Radio Transmitter in Huntsville back in service...

NOAA Weather Radio station KIH-20, transmitting out of Huntsville
on a frequency of 162.400 MHz, has been restored to service. The
issue with the phone line that caused the broadcast outage has been
resolved as of this afternoon.

We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused.

Station KIH-20 out of Huntsville, AL is off the air due to a communication problem. This outage comes only a few months after a previous outage caused by tornado damage on Monte Sano Mountain. Station KIH-20 serves the counties Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan and Jackson, and Giles and Lincoln counties in middle Tennessee.

No severe weather is currently anticipated in the near future, so it is not vitally important to be tuned to the weather station. However for ease of mind, residents of the following counties can tune to alternate weather radio transmittes on their weather radio. If a Warning or Watch is issued they will still sound, although the quality of the broadcast will not be as good due to lower power used on several transmitters.

  • Lawrence county – Station KIH-57 Florence, AL – 162.475mhz

  • Morgan, Marshall, Madison & Jackson county – Station WNG-642 – 162.525mhz

  • Lincoln (TN), Madison & Jackson county – Station WNG-554 also on 162.525
