The Storm Prediction Center has outlined north Alabama in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms, indicating that there is a 30% chance of severe weather within a point. We’re looking at primarily a damaging wind event tonight:
The thunderstorm threat begins across southern-middle Tennessee and northwest Alabama between 11pm and midnight, with a trend to the southeast. Storms should exit DeKalb/Cherokee/Etowah counties by 2:00 AM.
Based on what we have in place, I would anticipate being placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch later tonight if things continue to trend the way they are.

On a side note, the Hytop NEXRAD (KHTX) continues to be offline, so tracking thunderstorms tonight may prove difficult.
